This is a photograph which I have found on the internet. The composition is of a mechanic/metal object with black rubber cables running through it. A yellow flower is then associated on the top of the cables. This piece of photography evidently has a focal point which is positioned in the centre of the photograph; focussing on the assembled objects. The focal point being in the foreground causes for the green natural background to be blurred and enhance the detail and attention to the intended target. This image illustrates a contrast specifically between natural objects (flowers) and man made/mechanical objects (cable and metal clamp). Also a contrast in colour could be considered as the man made objects consist of black and grey whereas the natural objects are of bright yellows and greens. The contrast of new and old could also be taken into consideration as the recognition of rust on the man made object represent tat they are old which opposes the flowers which look fresh and young.
This piece of photography is one of my own which I took in one of my shoots associated with contrast. It contains and bed of brown/orange leaves which look seemingly old and are located in both the foreground and background of the image. Then in the middle of the composition a white plastic lid is positioned on top of the leaves, acting as a focal point of the photograph as it bold demonstrates contrasts in colour. The leaves in the background are slightly blurred which further enhances the attention to the plastic lid. There are several contrasts displayed in the image including natural/man made (leaves and the plastic lid), colour (brown/orange leave and white lid), and new/old (plastic lid and old looking leaves due to colour).
These two photographs can be connected in a few ways which are associated with the
themes of contrast being visible in them both. Contrast is the main feature of both of these
pieces; represented similarly in a couple of ways and it could be considered that the same intentions are used. Firstly, both of these photographs display contrast relating to natural/man made objects which are the dominant focus of both of them. Whether it be cables/clamps
and flowers or plastic lids and leaves the outcome is the same as they both present the
same contrast. Another contrast which features in both of these images is colour. In my
image there is a contrast between white and brown/orange and in the collected image there is a contrast between black/grey and yellow/green. New and old also can be considered in
both due to the recognition of colour (brown leaves - old , white lid - new) and also the
visibility of rust on the man made object which causes the assumption that an object is old.
Despite the fact that in my photograph the natural things are seen as old and the man made object is deemed as new and in the internet image the natural things are seen are new and the man made object is thought of as old. The outcome still remains the same as they both still illustrate a simple contrast between new and old.
