Work Diary - Studio Contrast

In this lesson we were asked to create pieces of photography in relation to the topic of Contrast. We initially were required to make a mind map containing what we considered contrast to be. We also had to include examples of each idea we came up with (e.g. summer and winter into sun and snow , fast and slow into a car and a snail). However, despite my pre-shoot mind map I found the shooting particularly hard and couldn't come up with many ideas to experiment with people. Despite this i still came out with a couple of successful pieces of work.

I feel that this piece of photography is considerably successful as it contains aspects of contrast. The main contrast which i intended was the contrast of emotions between the two people. One is frowning and the other is smiling which implies the opposing emotions of sad and happy. There is also a contrast with the girls tops as one is dark and the other is light. The dark background also allows the light figures (particularly on the right) to be enhanced.

This is another photograph which I deem to be relatively successful. The contrast in this piece is within the texture of the materials. The difference of textures is clearly visible as I have used a close up shot. The skin is smooth and the top is seemingly rough. I believe I could improve this piece by using a different colour of clothing which is dark and contrasts with the colour of the skin.

Progression:
When photographing contrast again I would like to experiment with several different concepts according to contrast. I would attempt to continue to experiment with different emotions and how they can be implied. Also I would like to create a piece which demonstrates a contrast between skin colours. If possible, I wish to create a piece including a youthful person and an elderly person which implies a contrast with age.
