Work Diary - Texture

Work Diary

When going out to search for the formal element of texture I initially struggled to find anything effective. However, when I began to use light to my advantage I began to compose some effective photographs. Also when I used the macro setting on my camera I managed to take some very clear close up shots which emphasised the texture. Close up shots are much more successful than long shots as the texture is more visible, when its close up the shadows and highlights are boldly displayed and the surface is much more clearly displayed.

I deem this photograph very successful as it displays the texture of the leaves very effectively. The highlight and shadow areas were formed by the angle of the light source and the camera. Also  by using the macro setting I was even able to pick up a furry texture on the brown stems. The surface of the leaves is seemingly bumpy and jagged due ton the very circular shadows formed.

I don't feel as if this image was as successful. This is because there isn't a very efficient light source to highlight the texture of the surface. In the image the surface seems smooth but this was not the effect I intended, as I wanted to show the lines of the surface.

Progression:
To improve so of my work, if I had the opportunity to re-shoot the topic texture again I would always try to use the macro setting because it enhances the focus on the close up shots and shows off texture very well. Also I would also attempt to always try to take pictures with an efficient light source. Every photograph i take will be a close up and therefore maximise its potential to display the texture of the surface.
