Formal Elements Discussion

Importance of Formal Elements
The formal elements (Colour, Tone, Shape, Texture, Pattern, Line, Depth) are vitally important for several reasons. Firstly it provides artists with a structure to follow when explaining their work, allowing an easy explanation to be formed which people will be able to interpret and understand. The formal elements also allow artists to categorise their work, by splitting their work into a variety of segments it is more easier to depict the specific topic in which the artist is focussing on. This is also helpful for learning and aspiring artists because if they are able to recognise a topic and analyse the work, they will be able to improve their own work. It also can provide the learners with a focus or guide them in the correct direction in order for them to form the correct response to a topic.
The formal elements are also very important in the sense of the need to evaluate and analyse others work. By including the formal elements in the evaluation a more specific critique can be made, the references to particular aspects of the work and the use of the formal elements creates much more clear points. Therefore allowing the person being evaluated to be able to improve their work more effectively and change certain aspects which changing. The use of the formal elements also allow artists to communicate in a sophisticated way. If artists include the description of the used formal elements in their work then a platform for upcoming artists is made as it implies something which they can aspire to and also how they can achieve their goal.
Without the knowledge of the formal elements it would be extremely difficult to distinguish topics between a variety of pictures. This is because no specific argument or analysis can be described when referring to the pictures. The formal elements create every single object in the world and without them we would not be equipped with the information and knowledge to describe or differentiate between objects. Therefore also resulting in communication between each other as vague and basic.
