Work Diary - Form

Work Diary

In my last lesson of photography I was able to start again to begin to take pictures around the college in relation to form due to the good weather conditions. Also I was lucky enough to be given my own camera to use so I was able to take a lot more pictures than I normally would. This allowed me to experiment more as I had the camera to myself and enabled me to express myself more freely. I feel that I am gradually getting more confident when using a camera.

I believe this image is successful because it has  several aspects which relate to the topic very well. The angle in which I positioned my hand and the camera allowed shadows to appear on my fingers due to sunlight. This creates the effect of form efficiently as it makes the picture obtain a three dimensional perspective. Also the contrast in colour between the hand and the grass make the hand stand out which gives the hand a defined shape and is clearly visible.
Similarly I feel that this picture is effective in the same ways. From the angle which the picture is taken shadows and highlighted areas are visible, also several shades of orange/yellow can be seen. Therefore providing the picture with the element of form. Once again the flower itself stands out due to the contrast in colour of the background. However I feel that this image could be improved by retaking the photo to get more detail as it seems a tad blurry.

Progression:
To improve my photos relating to form I could edit them further with a greyscale effect which would show off the shadows and highlighted areas even more. Also it would display a variety of tones creating a much more tonal piece and make its relationship to form even stinger. I would like to do a shoot in the studio where I can alter the lighting the gain an effect which enhances the shadows.
