Work Diary
In Fridays lesson we initially were going out to gather images relating to form, however the weather conditions didn't allow us to do so. We therefore had to make a start on depth. But because of the switch of topic I wasn't able to collect as many images as I would've liked to. Once I realised that depth is created in a picture when something seems to be getting smaller and looking further away, I was able to take a few successful photos.
I captured this image from the outside of the canteen. I thought it displayed depth extremely well due to the many rails/bars visible on the see of the building. I have used a low camera angle to the right of the rails. These railings seem larger in the foreground and all get thinner, and gradually get closer together, refracting towards a similar point. Also the gaps between each railing gradually get smaller as it progresses further away into the background.
I feel that these two pieces of work are successful as they both show depth well due to the recognition that the object is getting further away and therefore look smaller. By experimenting with camera angles I was able to find the most effective angle at each different location which demonstrate depth in the best way.
Progression:
If I was given the opportunity to re-visit the topic depth again I would attempt to take more images from a much wider variety of camera angles to allow me understands what is required to create a piece of work which demonstrates depth extremely effectively. I would also experiment with taking photos in different environments, i am specifically interested in the urban city environment focussing on buildings.
