Anselm Adams' work focusses on the Nature and wilderness of the world in black and white. The work of Ansel Adams in the world of photography set the standard on the dramatic use of black and white in capturing nature as it is. He developed his work to consistently combine exposure and contrast in photography to create a very successful effect. In many of his work Anselm Adams shows significant elements of depth which would be very useful to look at for my project.
Mario Testino
Many aspects of Mario Testino's work heavily relate to the topic of colour. He mainly focusses on the human body and he is a very prestigious fashion photographer. He includes many vibrant and bright colours by adding specific make up and effects which make the photos stands out significantly.
Brassaï
The work of Brassaï is all in black and white and therefore shows immense form and tone in his photography. By using the black and white effect it allows him to highlight the variety of different tones/shades in his work. Making his photos of humans very tonal. He also enjoyed taking pictures of the streets where he lived and these pictures show depth
Gisel Flores
Gisel Flores is a photographer that focusses on capturing still life images, many pieces of her work involve exploding objects and when a still image is captured the result is admirable. Many lines and patterns are formed due to the explosions and i believe this is very effective.
Louise Dahl-Wolfe
Louise dahl-wolfe works in both colour and black and white but her black and white pictures grab my interest the best. Her work displays great form by using the black and white effect and this also shows highlighted areas. Shadows are also shown which creates effective aspects of form in her work.
http://www.michaelkenna.net/index2.php
Michael Kenna is a photographer who looks for interesting compositions and arrangements within the natural landscape. He is drawn to certain times of day and night, preferring to photograph in the mist, rain and snow clear blue sky and sunshine do not inspire him. He only photographs his work in black and white. His work heavily relates to the formal element on depth as objects seem smaller as they get further away. However he also shows depth in other pictures by blurring out objects in the background and enhancing the detail on things in the foreground.
Richards Misrach
Richard Misrach is a Contemporary photographer. During the 1970s, Misrach and his work served to promote the use of colour photography and large-scale prints. Earth forms are abundant in his work; Misrach not only captures scenery, expansive views of landscapes and nature, but also creates politically-charged series of works that demonstrate the damaging effects on the earth and environment. His work demonstrates a compatibility between depth and lines when relating to the formal elements.
Nicholas Samaras
Nicholas Samaras is a photographer who specialises in underwater photography. His work is extremely effective for me as it covers several of the formal elements, including colour, shape, pattern and reflection.
Nick knight
Nick Knight's work tends to habit an abstract approach by incorporating models with drastic and usual costumes/props. Also a lot of his work undergoes much editing, this then transforms the original image to gain an abstract form. When editing he changes several aspects of the image including some of the formal elements; be it colour, line, pattern, shape and texture.
Lee Towndrow
Lee Towndrow's work is efficiently bold and bright and stands out. Most images contain an unusual aspect or abstract feel whether its due to the effects or the things included in the actual image. His work strongly relates to the formal element of colour as in the majority of his work vibrant colours which stand out are used.
Edward Weston
Edward Weston's work mainly focusses on the formal elements of tone and texture. He only uses black and white images in his work and this is very effective in showing off both texture and tone of the objects. By using this effect, highlight and shadow areas are enhanced which show the texture and feel of the surface. By using the black and white effect it also amplifies the different tones within the object forming a relatively tonal photograph.
Annie Leibovitz
Annie Leibovitz is a nationwide establish photographer renowned for her portrait work with famous people. Her work contains elements of elegance and class through the use of lighting, angle and different tones. Annie's work is usually quite simplistic but very effective. If I considered attempting to create my on portraits in the future I would make a further, in depth portfolio and analyse her work in order to give me something/someone to aspire to.
Antti-Jussi Liikala
Antti-Jussi Liikala is an independent photographer from Finland. The vast majority of her work focusses on nature and the wonders of our environment. Her work contains several aspects of the formal elements.
She be useful to consider as her work covers a wide range of approaches to the formal elements.
I like her focus on nature as I find it very beautiful. However, Antti-Jussi Liikala may not further feature in my project because I believe it would be more useful to study
a variety of photographers who specialise is specific areas and try to introduce aspects of their work
into mine.
Zuzana D

Zuzana D work is very intriguing, she also includes several approaches to the formal elements. I liked her work in relation to movement because of the transparent fading effect used to establish the illusion of movement. Zuzana's work also introduces many bold aspects of colour. I would like to experiment with the transparent fading technique in my own work to try and create a similar effect.
Rich Legg
Rich Legg's work appeals to me in many ways but the main reason that I like his work is that it provides me with guidelines and ideas on how to approach certain topics. He includes a range of formal elements in his work but I'm still not sure whether I would go into further detail in researching him because I believe that I should adapt my own style to a variety of other photographers.
Jerry Uelsman
Jerry Uelsman has a very unique and abstract approach towards photography, merging objects that wouldn't normally be placed together. I like that he uses the black and white technique as I would like to use it in the future. By using this technique it allows the images to be very tonal and therefore relate to the formal element of tone. He also explores some other elements such as depth and line.
Steve McCurry
The majority of Steven McCurry's photography revolves heavily around colour and ethnicity as most of his work has been assumedly taken in the Indian region, therefore focussing on the formal element of colour. Also most of his work is portraits, which I would like to experiment with in the future.
Eric Kim
Eric Kim's photography revolves around the formal element of colour. He uses our knowledge of colours to create a message in the his work. By using bright and vibrant colours it will attract the viewers attention better.
Pete Turner
Pete Turner has a very unique and abstract style. I believe his work is very successfully and relates to the formal element of colour superbly. He alters the hue and saturation levels to create some pieces of his work. I would like to attempt to compose similar pieces and adapt his abstract style into my own.
Adam Burton
Adam Burton also has a wide range of focusses which is evident through his work. He has created work which could relate to all the formal elements, whether it be close ups off objects to show texture or showing off a landscape reflection in the water. He also has shown shape through crating pieces which look like silhouettes.
