Work Diary - Colour

Work Diary

In this shoot I had to explore the formal element of colour which proved to be more successful than I originally expected. I was able to find a vast amount of bright colours on a campus that is seemingly dull. I discovered several opportunities to photograph colour through my creative eye. I thought that my colour work was more successful that my lines work. This is because I have started to gain a better knowledge on what actually is a successful picture. I have improved a bit more on my camera angles and have attempted to always try to fill all the frame and not waste any space.

I believe this piece of work was very successful as it takes the majority of the frame. Also I think I have used an effective camera angle which allows the viewer to feel that they are at the scene. The dark green leaves contrast with the bright orange berries to make them stand out, which relates strongly to the topic. To improve this image I would crop the top of the photo out to ensure that the whole frame is used up.

The good aspects of this photo is that it relates to the topic well due to the contrast between the colours. However, this piece could be improved by using a different camera angle which shows off the flower more. By doing this it could also allow me to fill up the whole frame which would result in a more successful photo.

Progression:
If I was given the opportunity to re-shoot colour I would improve the compositions of my work, ensuring that the framing of my work is effective and no space is wasted. Also I would like to experiment with colour in different ways such as makeup. Then I could form any colour palette which I want. I would like to do this on people's faces. I could also experiment with photoshop and use the selective colour tool where I could enhance the colour in the images by making the less colourful images black and white.
